Heading West from Santa Teresa along Sardinia's north coast there is a small resort area at Vignole Mare and afterwards the Costa Paradiso which is in fact a gated private estate with many apartments built into the cliff side. It is however a little isolated/distant from any other towns. Proceeding onwards you reach a group of resort areas; Isola Rossa, Badesi, Valledoria and then the historic town of Castelsardo. If you are travelling from Olbia airport by car the quickest route (particularly in summer) is inland via Tempio Pausania.
Isola Rossa & Badesi

| Isola Rossa | Badesi |
Isola Rossa is an attractive resort location with a modern marina (dinghies can be hired) adjoining the original old fishing village, it is named after the nearby red sandstone island you will see as you drop down into the town. There are bars, pizzerias and some fish restaurants overlooking the marina. Beach areas are adjoining the town and around the promontory. Isola Rossa does become very quiet out of the main season. Badesi town itself is 1.5-2 km from the coast but in an elevated position with good sea views. The beach " that spreads east is known as Li Junchi and west is Badesi Mare. Buses run between the town and beaches in main season.
Valledoria

| San Pietro Valledoria | Caccia Valledoria |
Valledoria is in the centre of a large plane and covers a wide area. Beach areas are; San Piero A Mare about 1.5km from Valledoria town and La Ciacchia about 3 km away. There are restaurants in the town and in the countryside and supermarkets and shops in Valledoria. Whilst the beach areas inevitably are seasonal, Valledoria itself is a living town all year and as a resort is popular predominantly with Italian tourists.
Castelsardo

| Castelsardo Esplanade | Castelsardo Below the Castle |
A further 20 minutes west is Castelsardo; one of the most important historical towns in Sardinia. Its "centro storico" is centred around the castle walls on a high promontory with dramatic views. Castelsardo is a potential all year destination with off season highlights being Capodanno (New Year when there are live bands and a stunning firework display from the castle ramparts), Passover (re-enactments in historical costumes of the biblical themes) and Easter (coast side concerts below the castle). There is a small beach below the castle adjoining the modern esplanade which runs around to the port area. Further, not overly busy, beaches can be found in either direction. It is also a good location for day trips; west to Stintino, Alghero and east to Palau, the Maddalena islands and beyond the Costa Smeralda. Plenty of restaurants and bars in the historic centre and near the beach area.

| Lu Bagnu | Lu Bagnu Beach |
Lu Bagnu is a fraction (area) of Castelsardo but physically separated by a rocky promontory (new cycle/walkway under construction)although regular(ish) buses run between. It has developed as the main holiday apartments are of Castelsardo due to the long beach that runs its length. Plenty of restaurants, bars and some hotels. Unlike Castelsardo itself it becomes quite quiet out of main season (mid-June-mid September).

| Tergu | Sorso |
Inland from Castelsardo are small traditional sardinian towns like Tergu (historic church) and along the coast Sorso (with 18km of beaches) which has an attractive currently relatively untouristic centre with bars and some restaurants. There is also a busy "locals" market in Sorso on a Friday.
