Porto Cervo Porto Rotondo
Porto Cervo & Costa Smeralda Olbia & Porto Rotondo

The Agha Khan's "Costa Smeralda" is the favourite of million (or billionaires) but it can be pretty quiet out of their (short) season and very expensive in it! Those with the finances arrive by private jet at Olbia's airport.

Olbia itself is a busy port connecting Sardinia with the mainland. To the east lies another (not very attractive) port at Golfo Aranci and nearby Porto Rotondo; where Silvio Berlusconi's entertained, amongst others, Vladimir Putin and the "Blairs" at his luxury villa.

Castelsardo Cala Gonone
Castelsardo & North Coast Cala Gonone & South

Sardinia's north coast offers a range of tourism options, of course plenty of beach resorts: Badesi, Valledoria and pretty Isola Rossa, but also at its centre the historic town of Castelsardo. A good base to explore the whole of the north of Sardinia.

Some 110 km south of Olbia airport is the genteel resort of Cala Gonone. Best known as the point for boat day trips to see isolated beaches and the "Bue Marino" caves. It is also a good location for climbing and trekking.

Capo D'Orso Budoni: La Cinta
Santa Teresa, Palau & La Maddalena San Teodoro & Budoni

At the north east tip of Sardinia are the ports of Santa Teresa di Gallura (ferries to Corsica) and Palau with regular ferries to La Maddalena and Caprera islands. Interesting rock formations and great views at Capo D'Orso & Capo Testa.

A favourite with Italians, looking for cheaper options to the Costa Smeralda. A number of different resort towns stretch along the coast south of Olbia: San Teodoro, Porto San Paolo and Budoni. Can be quiet out of season and offer basically beach resort holidays.
